Yes, what you heard is true, Carica papaya leaf extract helps in increasing platelet count naturally.
Carica papaya (CP) is a member of the Caricaceae and is a dicotyledonous, polygamous, and diploid species. It originated from Southern Mexico, Central America, and the northern part of South America. It is now cultivated in many tropical countries such as Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, West Indies, and Malaysia.
The constituents in the leaf extract of papaya help in increased production of platelets, thus it can be used in the management of dengue fever associated with thrombocytopenia (decreased platelet count).
The mechanism involved in increased platelets production is as follows:
There are 2 genes that are essentially required for platelet production and platelet aggregation. They are
- ALOX 12 (Arachidoante 12-Lipoxygenase)
- PTAFR (Platelet Activating Factor Receptor)
ALOX 12: The ALOX 12 gene is strongly expressed in megakaryocytes and has been known to be responsible for the 12-Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE) production of platelets. ALOX 12 is known to be associated with increased megakaryocyte production as well as its conversion to platelets through 12-HETE mediated pathway which in turn leads to increased platelet production.
PTAFR: The PTAFR gene was been found to be expressed in megakaryocytes indicating that it could be a precursor for platelet production in addition to its well-known role in platelet aggregation.
The active ingredients of C.papaya up-regulate the ALOX 12 and PTAFR gene thereby leading to increased production of megakaryocytes and its conversion into platelets. Clinical evidence shows that C. papaya extract increases ALOX 12 activity 15 fold and PTFAR activity 13.42 fold which is responsible for increased platelet production.
However, there are fruits too whose ingestion may help in raising the platelet count naturally. Examples include Guava, Kiwi, Apple, Pomegranate, and Papaya.
How to prepare Carica papaya leaf extract:
Step 1: Pick some leaves from the Carica Papaya plant and thoroughly wash them.
Step 2: Place those leaves in 200 or 300ml of water.
Step 3: Boil the water for 15 minutes or we can say until the color of water changes.
Step 4: Allow it to cool for 15 to 30 minutes. Filter out the leaves and wastes from the boiled water.
Step 5: Now the Carica papaya leaf extract is ready which can be used to increase the platelet counts.
This is what I know all about the raising of platelets count.
